I wasn't too happy with the apex after the first styling, but thought it was the best I could do with the foliage I had to play around with. Looking at the photos, I also started to realise that the upper portion of the trunk appeared quite straight and out of character. I set about putting some movement into the upper trunk and then the shape of the crown came together much easier, into a more mature, domed canopy. I am happy for now... At least until I attempt to get it into a pot at this angle! Roll on 2017!

Root Carving on the Big Hawthorn
I recently did the block carving on the big root around the rock. It will need a little refining and blowtorching when the wood dries.

Taxus Pruning
A couple of days ago I gave the "windswept" Taxus a good pruning to improve the structure and begin building the foliage pads.
I am not currently very happy with the top third of the tree. It appears quite tall and spindly and is lacking in taper. I am thinking of growing a new leader to replace the apex, creating better taper and denser branching.
I don't think I have posted a photo of the back of the tree for a while. The deadwood here is quite extensive now and is beginning to take on an aged patina.

Yamadori For Sale
I currently have a few excess raw material trees available for sale or trade. I do not collect trees simply to sell, but carefully select material for myself, and occasionally have a small number of surplus trees. All legally collected in 2013 and well established.
