Scotts Pine Apex Refinement

I wasn't too happy with the apex after the first styling, but thought it was the best I could do with the foliage I had to play around with. Looking at the photos, I also started to realise that the upper portion of the trunk appeared quite straight and out of character. I set about putting some movement into the upper trunk and then the shape of the crown came together much easier, into a more mature, domed canopy. I am happy for now... At least until I attempt to get it into a pot at this angle! Roll on 2017!

Yesterday I performed the first styling on my new yamadori Pinus sylvestris!

XL Hawthorn: July 2015

The big hawthorn has grown well this year. Today I trimmed the shoots again, blowtorched the recent carving on the root, and also reduced the apex a little, to create a more rounded crown.

Root Carving on the Big Hawthorn

I recently did the block carving on the big root around the rock. It will need a little refining and blowtorching when the wood dries.
